Baseball Recap: Hoover Cardinals vs. Canyon Hills Rattlers
Hoover extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 5-16. They lost 16-5 to the Canyon Hills Rattlers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Rattlers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 16-0 loss on Wednesday.
Justin Morales made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.
As for Canyon Hills, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games.
On Canyon Hills' side, Evan Zinn looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
On the hitting side, Kevin Rhodes was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Andersen, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Coincidentally, Hoover and Canyon Hills will both be playing Crawford the next time they take the field. The Cardinals will head out to face the Colts at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Rattlers will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on May 5.
