Soccer Game Preview: Waccamaw vs. Ashley Ridge

The Waccamaw Warriors will host the Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Waccamaw's favor is that they have posted at least four goals in their last three games.

Waccamaw's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Marlboro County. Charlie Withington was a massive factor in the win as he booted in three goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, Ashley Ridge's game on Friday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They had just enough and edged out Fort Dorchester 1-0. Given Ashley Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Fort Dorchester are ranked 42nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Waccamaw's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 32 goals over those five contests. As for Ashley Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Waccamaw couldn't quite get it done against Ashley Ridge in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can Waccamaw avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
