Football Game Preview: Woburn Memorial Tanners vs. Reading Memorial Rockets

Woburn Memorial is 2-8 against Reading Memorial since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tanners will challenge the Rockets at 7:00 p.m. Woburn Memorial's defense has only allowed 12.3 points per game this season, so Reading Memorial's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Woburn Memorial is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 50 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Arlington on Friday. They came up short against the Spy Ponders, falling 28-7.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Reading Memorial on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Belmont out of the water with a 41-0 final score. Considering the Rockets have won three games by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Woburn Memorial better keep an eye on Dominic Pate. He was instrumental in Reading Memorial's win, picking up 112 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 111 yards and two scores on only 12 carries. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 60 yards. Another player making a difference was Ryan Pulpi, who gained 78 total yards and a touchdown.

The victory made it two in a row for Reading Memorial and bumps their season record up to 3-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.5 points over those games. As for Woburn Memorial, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-3.

Woburn Memorial might still be hurting after the 28-6 defeat they got from Reading Memorial when the teams last played back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pate, who rushed for 94 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries. Now that the Tanners know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
