Football Game Preview: Avery County Vikings vs. North Rowan Cavaliers

The Avery County Vikings will venture away from home to challenge the North Rowan Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Avery County has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since September 5.

Avery County is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Mitchell on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Vikings were dealt a 63-14 loss at the hands of the Mountaineers. The Vikings were already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.

Meanwhile, North Rowan was able to grind out a solid victory over Mountain Island Charter on Thursday, taking the game 30-21. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cavaliers.

North Rowan's win came from a few key players Avery County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dyaon Norman- Jackson, who picked up 153 receiving yards and one score. Those 153 receiving yards gave him a new career-high. A'Son Best also helped out as he racked up 115 receiving yards.

North Rowan didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Mountain Island Charter to a completion percentage of just 48%. Another thorn in Mountain Island Charter's side was Monroe Jr., who made nine total tackles and defended five passes in addition to snagging two interceptions.

Avery County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for North Rowan, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
