Basketball Recap: Eureka's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Eureka had won seven straight games and Megan Johnson did her part to make it eight on Saturday. The Eureka Vandals breezed by the Smith Valley Bulldogs to the tune of 56-20 thanks in part to Johnson, who went 11 of 22 on her way to 23 points along with eight assists and seven steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 32 times she's played.

Eureka's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Smith Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eureka and Hug will compete for holiday cheer at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Eureka's defense has only allowed 15.2 points per game this season, so Hug's offense will have their work cut out for them. Smith Valley will take on Sierra Lutheran in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
