Basketball Recap: Elkhorn Valley's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Elkhorn Valley put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 40-35 W against the O'Neill Eagles. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Falcons also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2024.

Elkhorn Valley had a senior duo take command as Korbin Werner almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds and Jarett Werner posted 11 points and six boards. Blake Rutjens also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Despite the loss, O'Neill still got an impressive performance from Turner Heiss, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards. Heiss has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Ryder Kelly was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Elkhorn Valley's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for O'Neill, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Elkhorn Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Elgin/Pope John at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for O'Neill, they have already played their next matchup, a 56-40 loss against Cedar Catholic on the 12th.
