Softball Recap: Olentangy Liberty's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Olentangy Liberty had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Lakewood Lancers. That's two games straight that the Patriots have won by exactly three runs.

Mindy Schoen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Olentangy Liberty got a massive performance out of Kailey McGinnis, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Izzy Matteo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Olentangy Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Lakewood, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-5.

Looking ahead, Olentangy Liberty will be playing in front of their home fans against Teays Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lakewood, they will square off against Danville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lancers 3.9, the Blue Devils 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
