Basketball Game Preview: Wheeler Eagles vs. Tishomingo County Braves

The Wheeler Eagles will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Tishomingo County Braves at 8:30 a.m. on Friday. Wheeler knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 games -- so hopefully Tishomingo County likes a good challenge.

Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Wheeler against Blue Mountain as the team secured a 67-34 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Cougars are ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Tishomingo County came into Thursday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Kossuth 48-46.

Wheeler is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.6 points per game. As for Tishomingo County, their record now sits at 11-5.

Wheeler came up short against Tishomingo County in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 56-48. Can Wheeler avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
