Softball Recap: Firebaugh Eagles vs. Sunnyside Wildcats

Firebaugh extended their losing streak to eight on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-8. They came up short against the Sunnyside Wildcats, falling 19-0. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2018.

As for Sunnyside, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

For Sunnyside's part, Isabella Cardenas was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Cardenas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Alysa Albarran and Kaliah Walker did most of the damage at the plate: Albarran went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Walker got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Walker has posted since back in February of 2025. Natalie Enriquez also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Looking ahead, Firebaugh will head out to face off against Paso Robles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
