Baseball Game Preview: Bassett Bengals vs. Mecklenburg County Phoenix

The Bassett Bengals will head out to square off against the Mecklenburg County Phoenix at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Bassett fell victim to Tunstall and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. The Bengals have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Mecklenburg County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Nottoway.

Trevor Lynch was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Aaron Thompson, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Bassett's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Mecklenburg County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Bassett came out on top in a nail-biter against Mecklenburg County in their previous meeting last Wednesday, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bengals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
