Baseball Game Preview: Fairmont Golden Tornadoes vs. Midway Raiders

The Fairmont Golden Tornadoes will head out to face off against the Midway Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Fairmont lost 14-3 to Midway on Tuesday. The Golden Tornadoes haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

For Midway's part, Tanner Williams made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Williams was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Midway's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Scott, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carson Tew, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.

Midway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Fairmont's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-6. As for Midway, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fairmont has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Midway struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
