Football Recap: Valdez Comes Up Short at Home Against Monroe Catholic

Valdez unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through a 50-6 loss at the hands of the Monroe Catholic Rams. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Tristan Nicholson and Makai Bond. Nicholson rushed for 84 yards and two scores on only five carries while Bond picked up 112 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Nicholson didn't just play on offense: he also picked up two sacks and made nine total tackles. Connor McCallum was in the mix too, providing Monroe Catholic with one TD.

Coincidentally, Valdez and Monroe Catholic will both be playing Seward the next time they take the field. The Rams will host the Seahawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Buccaneers will head out to face them at 12:00 p.m. on the 30th.
