Volleyball Recap: Mayfield Trojans vs. Gadsden Panthers
Mayfield was the 3-0 winner over Gadsden when they last played one another back in October, but their luck changed this time around. The Mayfield Trojans fell just short of the Gadsden Panthers by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday.
Mayfield actually scored more points across those five sets (109-108), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 20-25, 21-25, 26-24, 16-14.
Mckenna Linnan paced Mayfield's offense, picking up 22 kills. Linnan got some help from
Sadee Lueras and her 34 assists. Lueras was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.
Mayfield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Gadsden, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-14.
Mayfield will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Organ Mountain at 12:00 p.m. As for Gadsden, they are taking a road trip to face off against Alamogordo at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gadsden is facing Alamogordo at the right time seeing as Alamogordo is stuck on a 21-game losing streak.
