Basketball Game Preview: West Anchorage Eagles vs. Grace Christian Grizzlies

The West Anchorage Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Grace Christian Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. West Anchorage has given up an average of 57.6 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.

It was a Battle of the Birds when West Anchorage took on Bettye Davis East Anchorage on Friday. West Anchorage was dealt a 79-48 loss at the hands of Bettye Davis East Anchorage. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked first).

Meanwhile, Grace Christian came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Moose with a sharp 59-38 win. The Grizzlies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.

West Anchorage has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points over those games. Grace Christian's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-2.

West Anchorage came up short against Grace Christian in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 58-53. Can West Anchorage avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
