Basketball Recap: Mitchell Takes a Loss

If Mitchell was feeling good fresh off their 48-24 takedown of Rosman on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mitchell Mountaineers had to suffer through a 60-28 loss at the hands of the Avery County Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mountaineers have suffered since January 12, 2024.

Avery County was led to victory by Maddy Barrett and Caroline Hollifield. Barrett went 7-for-13 en route to 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Hollifield went 7-for-11 on her way to 16 points and three steals. That's the most points Barrett has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie Johnson, who had 12 points.

Mitchell's loss dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Avery County, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-6.

Mitchell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Avery County, they will face off against Mountain Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mountain Heritage's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.
