Basketball Recap: Serra Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the Serra Cavaliers lost to the Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles on the road by a 55-37 margin. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Verbum Dei Jesuit's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reese Whitman, who posted 13 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jaythan Pinckney, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Serra's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Serra will take on Bernstein at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bernstein knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Serra likes a good challenge. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, they will square off against La Salle at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Verbum Dei Jesuit is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.1 points per game this season.
