Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

St. Mary lost against Ravenscroft back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The St. Mary's Saints lost to the Ravenscroft Ravens at home by a 62-45 margin. The Saints' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

St. Mary's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Molly Sather, who made all 5 shots she took racking up 14 points, and Janelle Gyampo, who posted six points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks. Gyampo is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Kate Chamblee was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, St. Mary's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Ravenscroft was led to victory by Hannah Mason and Emily Virag. Mason went 8 of 16 on her way to 23 points, while Virag went 6 for 13 en route to 16 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Those 23 points gave Mason a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Cronin, who scored 12 points and seven rebounds.

St. Mary's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4. As for Ravenscroft, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-12.

St. Mary's won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against American Leadership Academy-Johnston at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Mary's is facing American Leadership Academy-Johnston at the right time seeing as American Leadership Academy-Johnston is stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Ravenscroft, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Cary Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
