Basketball Recap: Verdugo Hills Skates Past Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Verdugo Hills). They claimed a resounding 81-40 win over the Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences Vipers. The Dons not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since February 5th (when they won 77-36).

Jeffrey Moran was his usual excellent self, shooting 55% from beyond the arc on his way to 39 points along with six boards and four steals. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024. Alexander Kasumyan was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 14 assists.

Verdugo Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 17 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Verdugo Hills' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record.

Looking ahead, Verdugo Hills will take on Vaughn at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Dons' defense better be ready for this one: the White Tigers have averaged an impressive 57.8 points per game this season. As for Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences, they will challenge Central City Value at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
