Football Game Preview: Villa Grove Blue Devils vs. Sullivan Redskins

The Villa Grove Blue Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Sullivan Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Villa Grove will be strutting in after a victory while Sullivan will be coming in after a loss.

Villa Grove took a 20-point defeat the last time they faced off against Sangamon Valley/Tri-City, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Blue Devils slipped by the Storm 25-24 on Friday. The Blue Devils' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Villa Grove's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Vandeventer, who picked up 66 receiving yards and two TDs. Those two receiving touchdowns gave Vandeventer a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Sullivan lost to Cumberland on the road by a 35-21 margin on Saturday.

Villa Grove's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.3 points on average over those games. As for Sullivan, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
