Basketball Recap: Lafayette Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Lafayette Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 70-53 bruising from the Harrison Raiders. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 57-42 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Lafayette Central Catholic still got an impressive performance from Romeo Huerta, who posted 13 points and five boards. Those 13 points gave Huerta a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ray Clayton, who went 5 of 11 en route to 10 points.

Even though they lost, Lafayette Central Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Malachi King was his usual excellent self, going 13 for 18 to rack up 29 points and eight rebounds for Harrison. Ray Gibson was another key player, putting up ten points and seven steals.

Lafayette Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Harrison, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lafayette Central Catholic will welcome West Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Harrison, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Westfield at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.1 points per game this season.
