Preview: Huguenot Falcons vs. Monacan Chiefs
The Huguenot Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Monacan Chiefs at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Huguenot focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Wednesday.
Huguenot couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost to Manchester at home by a decisive 72-54 margin. Huguenot has not had much luck with Manchester recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Huguenot had strong showings from Trevion Brown, who scored 14 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals, and Kaemon Smith, who scored 18 points along with 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Hazel, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Monacan pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 62-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Steward.
Despite their defeat, Monacan saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Tai Bowler, who scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Samuel Sims, who scored 15 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Huguenot's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Monacan, their loss dropped their record down to 2-1.
Huguenot suffered a grim 85-60 defeat to Monacan when the teams last played back in February. Can Huguenot avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
