Baseball Game Preview: Grove City Christian Eagles vs. Millersport Lakers

Grove City Christian and Millersport are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles will face off against the Lakers at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Millersport took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Grove City Christian, who comes in off a win.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Grove City Christian took on Miller on Monday. The Eagles blew past the Falcons 7-1. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Peyton Fillinger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up nine Ks. He has become a key player for Grove City Christian: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Tyler Benedum was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeff Collins, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Grove City Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Millersport lost 11-1 to Bishop Rosecrans on Wednesday. The Lakers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Millersport saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Jones, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. That run was Jones' first of the season.

Millersport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Grove City Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.

Everything went Grove City Christian's way against Millersport in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Grove City Christian made off with a 16-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
