Basketball Game Preview: Brookeland Wildcats vs. Leggett Pirates

Brookeland and Leggett are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The Brookeland Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Leggett Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Brookeland knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 contests -- so hopefully Leggett likes a good challenge.

Brookeland is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Goodrich: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Brookeland blew Goodrich out of the water with a 98-5 final score. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 27 points or more this season.

Landon Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 of 13 to rack up 17 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. He has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cash Powell, who went 6 for 10 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Brookeland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Leggett hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They had just enough and edged Burkeville out 51-48.

Brookeland is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 92.9 points over those games. As for Leggett, their record is now 10-19.

Everything came up roses for Brookeland against Leggett in their previous matchup back in January, as the team secured a 95-28 victory. In that matchup, Brookeland amassed a halftime lead of 55-16, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Monday.
