Football Recap: Highland Finds Playoff Glory Versus Forge Christian + How To Watch

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Highland had no problem doing just that on Friday. They snuck past the Forge Christian Fury with a 41-35 victory. Highland's win was all the more impressive since the Fury were averaging only 15 points allowed on the season.

Highland had a senior duo take command as Elijah Elder gained 157 total yards and Tyler Varra threw for 139 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Varra's passing game has become a key predictor of the Huskies' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise.

Highland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 273 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September.

When it comes to explaining why Forge Christian lost, don't look at Quentin Torres. Despite the final result, he rushed for 222 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.7 yards per carry, and also picked up 90 receiving yards. Torres was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. Treysen Eye was another key pass catcher, picking up 53 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Highland's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Forge Christian, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-2 record.

Looking ahead, Highland will square off against Centauri at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Huskies surely won't give up without a fight. Forge Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
