Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Port St. Joe walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Cottondale Hornets on Tuesday as they made off with a 13-1 win. Considering the Tiger Sharks have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Corban Butts was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Port St. Joe's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 9-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Baylor Partie, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Port St. Joe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.
The victory (which was Port St. Joe's seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Cottondale, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 17-13.
As of now, neither Port St. Joe nor the Hornets have any future games scheduled.
