Softball Recap: Lake Gibson Comes Up Short

Lake Gibson fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Mulberry on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 10-7 to the Panthers. The Braves have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Nadine Lewis spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kylie Vazquez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 5-for-5 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Lily Harwell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Lake Gibson now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Mulberry, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Lake Gibson will be playing at home against Discovery at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Braves are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Mulberry, they will square off against Avon Park at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
