Softball Game Preview: Mize Bulldogs vs. Heidelberg Oilers

The Mize Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Heidelberg Oilers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Mize's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Heidelberg has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Last Thursday, Mize was able to grind out a solid win over Richton, taking the game 7-2. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won six in a row.

Ella Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lila Gordon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was AK Easterling, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Mize was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richton only posted a batting average of .179.

Meanwhile, Heidelberg came up short against Bay Springs on Thursday, falling 20-4. The match marked the Oilers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Mize's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Heidelberg, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
