Basketball Game Preview: Lutheran Lions vs. Discovery Canyon Thunder

Lutheran is a perfect 5-0 against Discovery Canyon since January of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lutheran Lions will head out to square off against the Discovery Canyon Thunder at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Lutheran's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.

Last Friday, Lutheran didn't have too much trouble with Palmer Ridge as they won 60-44. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won five in a row.

It was another big night for Kade Speckman, who went 8 of 11 en route to 22 points and eight rebounds. His evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Oldenburg, who went 5 for 9 to rack up 14 points.

Meanwhile, Discovery Canyon suffered their closest loss since December 2, 2023 on Saturday. They fell just short of Mesa Ridge by a score of 54-51.

Lutheran's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points over those games. As for Discovery Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-5.

Lutheran was able to grind out a solid victory over Discovery Canyon when the teams last played back in January, winning 66-56. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lutheran since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
