Football Recap: Montbello Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Montbello had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a blow against the Vista Ridge Wolves, falling 50-20. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Although Montbello took the loss, they still got scores from Zyaire Custis, Quillian Davis, and Amari Williams.

Montbello didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jordan Martin. He has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last three times he's played.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Micah Nocita and Deron Tiggett. Nocita rushed for 130 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries while Tiggett rushed for 136 yards and one score while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Nocita didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles and defended one pass. Another player making a difference was Colton Camba, who rushed for 42 yards and a pair of TDs.

Vista Ridge has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Montbello has already played their next match, a 29-20 loss against Evergreen on the 5th. As for Vista Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 52-0 win against Evanston on the 5th.
