The Rockford Auburn Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Belvidere Bucs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Rockford Auburn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Rockford Auburn will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Jefferson on Monday. The Knights put the hurt on the J-Hawks with a sharp 12-1 victory. Considering the Knights' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Maylee Baker spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Rockford Auburn let KayKay Hudson and Lily Parr run wild. Hudson went 2-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Parr went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Eva Ostergard was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Belvidere, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Guilford on Tuesday, sneaking past 6-4. While the Bucs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-23-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Rockford Auburn's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Belvidere, their record now sits at 7-3.
Rockford Auburn took their win against Belvidere in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-5 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Bucs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
