Football Recap: Sacramento Starts Season with Victory Against Sonoma Valley

Sacramento had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past Sonoma Valley, posting a 48-0 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Sacramento's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 165th, while Sonoma Valley is ranked 455th).

Leading Sacramento to victory were Laron James-Radcliffe and Cordell Radcliffe. James-Radcliffe threw for 113 yards and three touchdowns on only eight passes, while Radcliffe rushed for 141 yards and one TD while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Damarie Taylor was in the mix too, providing Sacramento with three scores.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Sacramento proved: they limited Sonoma Valley to a paltry 0.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least four total tackles, Jayce Salazar stood above the rest. He picked up 2.5 sacks, made four total tackles (3.0 for loss), and defended three passes. Sacramento didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.9.

Sacramento didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Taylor and Isaiah Blackwell. Sacramento got some further help from Salazar: he picked up 2.5 sacks, made four total tackles (3.0 for loss), and defended three passes.

Sacramento didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 30-27 defeat against Livermore on the 5th. As for Sonoma Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 28-22 win against Montgomery on the 5th.
