Basketball Recap: Hilton Head Prep's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After flying high against Charleston Collegiate last Monday, Hilton Head Prep came back down to earth. The Hilton Head Prep Dolphins fell 47-40 to the Cross Stingrays on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Dolphins in their matchups with the Stingrays: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Hilton Head Prep still got an impressive performance from Courtney Campbell, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Campbell is crushing it when it comes to points: she's scored at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Moe, who posted five points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Hilton Head Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Ryan Mayers, who went 8 for 14 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals for Cross. Cross is 8-3 when Mayers posts five or more steals, but 5-6 otherwise. Sydney Hollings was another key player, putting up ten points along with six boards and four steals.

Hilton Head Prep's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-8. As for Cross, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-9.

Hilton Head Prep has already played their next match, a 62-39 win against Patrick Henry Academy on the 31st. As for Cross, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-18 victory against Thomas Heyward Academy on the 4th.
