Football Game Preview: New Hanover Wildcats vs. Clayton Comets + Official Tickets

The New Hanover Wildcats will take on the Clayton Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

New Hanover is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 28-14 victory over Heritage. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Javonie Webb was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Those 190 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: New Hanover was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 318 rushing yards. They are a perfect 4-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Meanwhile, Clayton faced Cleveland in a battle between two of the state's top teams two weeks ago. The Comets strolled past the Rams with points to spare, taking the game 20-3.

New Hanover better keep an eye on Aiden Smalls. He was instrumental in Clayton's win, rushing for 90 yards and one score, while also throwing for 127 yards and a pair of TDs. Parker Ferguson also helped out with an impressive 90 receiving yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Clayton's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Kaden Blackwell with two. Clayton got some further help from Keshawn Stancil: he picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Clayton's record is now 8-2. As for New Hanover, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
