Baseball Recap: Elyria Takes a Loss

Elyria had lost six straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 4-16 to make it seven. They fell 7-3 to the Avon Eagles. If the Pioneers were looking for revenge after losing 15-0 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Avon, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games.

For Avon's part, they got a great performance from Matthew Sheldon as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Sheldon a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kyle Delury, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jensen Petro was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

While Elyria had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
