Softball Recap: Houston Comes Up Short

Houston extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-9. They fell 11-6 to the Homer Mariners. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Mariners this season, with their most recent loss being a 5-4 defeat last Friday.

As for Homer, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5. 11 seems to be a good number for them as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Homer's part, Keagan Niebuhr made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off 12 hits. Niebuhr was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Homer let Natalie Hinsberger and Aili Jensen run wild. Hinsberger went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Jensen went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases and two runs. Jensen is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged four or more in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Almalinda Norman, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Houston wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 17-4 defeat against Soldotna on the 8th. As for Homer, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 4-4 tie against Kenai Central on the 8th.
