Basketball Recap: Terra Brubaker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Longmont over Horizon

After flying high against Silver Creek last Thursday, Longmont came back down to earth. The Longmont Trojans came up short against the Horizon Hawks on Tuesday, falling 47-23. The Trojans were down 44-15 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Longmont's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terra Brubaker, who posted six points and ten rebounds. Brubaker is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Lerit, who scored nine points.

Horizon was led to victory by Kaitlin Schumann and Gabby Newble. Schumann earned ten points in addition to eight rebounds and five blocks, while Newble had eight points along with six boards and three steals. Horizon is undefeated when Newble posts three or more steals, but 6-10 otherwise. Genia Harris was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Longmont has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Horizon, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-10.

When Longmont and Horizon next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Longmont will square off against Frederick and their six-game winning streak at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Horizon will try to stop Erie's five-game winning streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
