Football Recap: Nine Straight Home Wins for Logansport

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Logansport ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They slipped by the West Lafayette Red Devils 44-43. Things were looking grim for the Berries in the first quarter (they were down by 20) but they stormed back to get the game.

Elliot Baldini was his usual excellent self, rushing for 115 yards and a pair of scores, while also picking up 32 receiving yards. Baldini is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 115 every time he's taken the field this season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Logansport was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 353 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Logansport, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Karsen Jackson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

West Lafayette's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Blake Biddle, who threw for 182 yards and two TDs, and Kojo Steffey, who rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 78 yards.

Logansport pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.3 points on average over those games. As for West Lafayette, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Logansport is set to square off against their familiar foe Western at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Baldini and Matthew McKitrick. Meanwhile, West Lafayette will take on rival Twin Lakes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
