Basketball Recap: Riverside Comes Up Short

Riverside was the 61-22 winner over Capital when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Riverside Warriors took a 65-49 bruising from the Capital Cougars on Saturday.

When it comes to explaining why Riverside lost, don't look at Cianna Groom. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Groom is becoming a predictor of Riverside's success: when she posts at least 15 points the team is 2-1 (and 2-15 when she doesn't). Ava Ward was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Riverside's record is now 4-16. As for Capital, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside will head out to challenge Scott at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Scott's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Riverside has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. As for Capital, they will venture away from home to take on Hurricane at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
