Softball Recap: South Salem Saxons vs. Sprague Olympians
South Salem had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-18 to make it four. They lost 16-3 to the Sprague Olympians. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Olympians this season, with their most recent loss being a 14-1 defeat last Tuesday.
Karis Bowman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Kennedy Carter also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
As for Sprague, their victory bumped their record up to 5-13. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
On Sprague's side, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Lundeen, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Lundeen a new career-high. Brooklyn Bakke was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Salem will challenge Sheldon at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sprague, they will square off against North Salem at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.27 runs per game on average), something the Olympians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
