League recap: Canyon Springs' league-best three wins lead to standings climb

Inland Valley league recap: 3/8/13

Canyon Springs outpaced the rest of the league this week, as its three total wins led the league. The Cougars beat Eisenhower 18-1, Beaumont 3-1 and Indio 14-8.

Rancho Verde's Sergio Mercado was the best pitcher in Inland Valley this week. He picked up one win and eight strikeouts.

Arlington's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 12 hits and five walks to lead the league in both categories.

The Mustangs' Jahshua Jones was locked in this week, and led the league with a .750 average (9-for-12) over that span. For the season, he's hitting .579, good for sixth in the league. Jones has totaled 11 hits this season.

Jones led the league with nine hits this week for Rancho Verde. On the season, he's hitting .579 and ranks first in the league with 11 hits.



Nicholas Garcia led Vista del Lago to a win on March 4, as he notched eight strikeouts to beat Colton, 6-2. Over five innings of work, he gave up four hits and two runs.

The Lions' Tyler Williams threw seven shutout innings in an 8-0 win over Palm Springs on Saturday. He pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out six, while giving up three hits.
