The Eagle Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Kuna Kavemen at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eagle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Eagle is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Centennial, who was ranked 11th at the time (Eagle was ranked 16th). The Mustangs came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 6-3 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Caleb Zawadzki spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carter Ditlove, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Jack Swanstrom also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Kuna fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Centennial on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2. The Kavemen's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Bergan Overall was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

At the plate, Jackson Edwards made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Max Sperry, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

Kuna's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Eagle, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Everything went Eagle's way against Kuna in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Eagle made off with a 7-0 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Kavemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
