Baseball Game Preview: Galena Bears vs. Pierce City Eagles

The Galena Bears will venture away from home to face off against the Pierce City Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Galena blew Spokane out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Spokane got their revenge. The Bears fell just short of the Owls by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bears have suffered since April 23, 2024.

Bryce Wall put in work no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Galena's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Wall was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Cody Jones made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Galena is 5-2 when Jones posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Wyatt Doak was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Pierce City didn't have quite enough to beat Ash Grove on Thursday and fell 11-10. The Eagles have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Pierce City now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Galena, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Galena took their win against Pierce City when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 15-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
