Softball Game Preview: Big Bear Bears vs. Rim of the World Fighting Scots

The Big Bear Bears will head out to square off against the Rim of the World Fighting Scots at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Big Bear knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Rim of the World likes a good challenge.

Big Bear had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Pacific on Thursday. Big Bear blew past Pacific 16-7.

Layla Navarette made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Navarette was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Big Bear let Jordan Gilligan and Annalise Marshall run wild. Gilligan went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Marshall went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Gilligan has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorden Acosta, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 21 runs the game before, Rim of the World was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They came up short against Serrano, falling 29-1.

Big Bear pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Rim of the World, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3-1.

Big Bear might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Rim of the World in their previous matchup back in March of 2016. Can Big Bear avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
