The Fishers Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Carmel Greyhounds at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Fishers will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Fishers barely beat Harrison the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers never let the Raiders get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory on Saturday.
The result came thanks to Reid Garber's shutout, as he gave up just a hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mayo Fernandez, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Huston Dunn was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Fishers hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Carmel faced Zionsville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Greyhounds blew past the Eagles 9-3. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.
Nathan Rodgers looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
Fishers' win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Carmel, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fishers has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Carmel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fishers came out on top in a nail-biter against Carmel when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
