Basketball Game Preview: Cuero Gobblers vs. Taylor Ducks

The Cuero Gobblers and the Taylor Ducks will round out the year against one another at at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Cuero saw some tournament action two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Liberty as Cuero made off with a 69-45 win.

Meanwhile, Taylor had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They wrapped up 2024 with a 67-53 victory over the Tigers.

Cuero better keep an eye on TJ Whybrew. He was instrumental in Taylor's win, going 9 for 15 on his way to 26 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists. The contest was Whybrew's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadrien Deary, who went 6 for 15 on his way to 17 points.

Taylor has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.1 points per game. As for Cuero, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Cuero came up short against Taylor in their previous matchup back in February of 2015, falling 65-59. Thankfully for Cuero, B.J. Tealer (who went 8 of 16 on his way to 21 points in addition to five assists and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
