Softball Recap: Newbury Park Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They never let the Calabasas Coyotes get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. Considering the Panthers have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Krista Danklefs looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Yasmin Topinko and Janessa Gutierrez did most of the damage at the plate: Topinko went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI, while Gutierrez went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Topinko has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Riley Richardson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Newbury Park kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Newbury Park is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Calabasas, they are on a 16-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Newbury Park and Calabasas could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 236th) will meet Westlake (ranked 108th) at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Calabasas will challenge Oaks Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (919 vs. 10).
