Softball Recap: Gates County Wins Going Away Against Hobgood Charter

Gates County had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 11-9 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Hobgood Charter Raiders as they made off with a 20-12 win. The Red Barons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by eight runs or more this season.

Hailey Bauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Gates County got a massive performance out of Zoey Nowell, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Nowell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Riddick, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

As for Hobgood Charter, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

On Hobgood Charter's side, Kinsey Peel and Cristina Martinez did some serious damage despite the final result: Peel went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Martinez went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Peel is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilli Braddy, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Gates County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hobgood Charter, they will host Bear Grass Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
