Basketball Recap: Lake Central Comes Up Short

Lake Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 77-49 loss at the hands of the Portage Indians. While losing is never fun, Lake Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while Portage is ranked 57th).

Lake Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zachary Greene, who went 6 for 15 on his way to 12 points. Greene also posted two blocks, marking his first of the season. Spencer Gail was another key player, putting up eight points.

Garrett Clark was the offensive standout of the match as he went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was O'Mari Evans, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Lake Central's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Portage, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Central will host Lighthouse College Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Portage has already played their next game (against Merrillville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
