Softball Recap: Wheeler Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Wheeler came tearing into Monday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the River Forest Ingots as they made off with a 12-1 win. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by ten runs or more this season.

Nora Howell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Rileyann Welch and Abby Allen did most of the damage at the plate: Welch went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Allen went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Allen has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ashlynne Trinidad, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI and one double.

Wheeler was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in eight consecutive games.

Wheeler pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for River Forest, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

Wheeler will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Ingots: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
