Softball Recap: West Greene Victorious

On Saturday West Greene's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Avonworth Antelopes. The four-run effort marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Payton Gilbert made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Emmaline Beazell was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kylee Davis was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

West Greene's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Avonworth, they moved to 3-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, West Greene will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Waynesburg Central at 4:00 p.m. As for Avonworth, they will venture away from home to square off against Knox Central at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
